Marie Curie's
Legacy
“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.”
Marie is revered for her trailblazing contributions to science. Curie discovered two new elements, pioneered the use of radiation in medicine, and radically changed the understanding of radioactivity.
She won an unprecedented two Nobel Prizes for her work in radioactivity and her discovery of radium and polonium. Curie explored the applications of radiation across many fields of medicine, including oncology, which was a groundbreaking approach to treating cancer.
Marie Curie was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the only person to win two Nobel Prizes across two separate fields, the first female professor at La Sorbonne University, and the first woman to be buried at the Panthéon.
