Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life to the civil rights movement. He strongly believed in and advocated for equality for African Americans and the economically disadvantaged. Through his nonviolent leadership, he became a major catalyst for ending segregation, and for creating the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. 

Often remembered solely for his achievements in civil rights, King fought for other injustices as well. He stood with unions, as he believed in their power against poverty. He called for national reform of funding, insisting on insuring health care, good education, a decent wage, and occupation for all. Dr. King had a vision of a peaceful world free of hatred, poverty, oppression, and war. He never gave up his nonviolent fight for equality, leaving behind a legacy that will never be forgotten.
