Oath Money & Meaning Institute Research Reports

The Oath Money & Meaning Institute is a research initiative focused on exploring the complex relationship between wealth and well-being. By regularly capturing the views and experiences of retiring or retired investors, Oath believes we can gather wise and meaningful insights.

July 2026

This report summarizes our Q3 2026 survey findings, discovering that while many Americans report feeling financially stable, only a minority say their current lives consistently reflect what matters most to them. Findings suggest many retirees are stable but not fully realizing the retirement they want due to a lack of deliberate planning for life after work.

April 2026

Our April 2026 research finds many planning conversations only cover financial matters and advisors rarely invite deeper discussions about purpose, identity, and daily life in retirement. The majority of participants are neutral or comfortable with the topic — including more than half who describe themselves as somewhat or very comfortable.

January 2026

Our Q1 2026 survey finds that healthcare costs ranks as retirees’ top financial worry for 2026, followed by “not having enough money to maintain lifestyle” and “unexpected expenses.” The survey also reveals that many retirees wish they had worried less about money and find themselves busier than expected in retirement.

October 2025

This report summarizes findings of our Q4 2025 survey conducted to better understand the different views of what constitutes a “successful” retirement. Over 891 individuals participated, with the happiest participants in our study emphasizing the need to balance money, health, family and personal interests as a path to a more fulfilling retirement.
